Berne Cricket Club hosted Cossonay Cricket Club for a friendly cricket match on Sunday 29th August 2021 dedicated to the memory of Peter Maclaverty†, a founder of both Berne CC and organised cricket in Switzerland.
Cossonay batted first and were bowled out for 87 runs in 24 overs. In a friendly match that was played in good spirit, Berne won after chasing down the total in 23 overs for the loss of 4 wickets.
Peter MacLaverty† died on Wednesday 6th August at 3.15pm aged 70 years (27.7.1944 – 6.8.2014) after losing his battle against a serious illness.
Remembered fondly by all that new him, Peter MacLaverty† - the entrepreneur, passionate cricketer, squash player and golfer - was involved in the inaugural meeting of the association in 1980 and was an inspiration to all that played cricket with him and worked with him on the executive and at meetings over the many years he was involved.
In 2012 Peter MacLaverty† was awarded a Services to Cricket Award recognising his many years of dedication to the sport in this country.
Renowned for his straight talking, Peter enriched our lives with his enthusiasm, commitment and unique northern Irish wit.
Each year Berne Cricket Club select a match from their cricketing calendar that will be dedicated to Peter MacLaverty†. Members are invited to attend the match, especially those who played with Peter and who served with him on the national executive, and a perpetual Peter Maclaverty† Memorial Trophy is awarded to the winning team captain at the end of the match.
