International Manager's report 2020

David Barmes Memorial Trophy

The 2020 DBMT was originally planned for the start of the season as normal but with 2020 not being a “normal” season this had to be postponed. With the help of clubs and the competitions Manager a new date of the 13th September was found and the ground at Embrach secured to host the match. Unfortunately due to the re-scheduling of the CSPL ¼ finals for the weekend of the 12th & 13th September and no other date available before the end of the season, reluctantly the decision was taken to cancel the 2020 DBMT to ensure that all the league and Mr Pickwick T20 fixtures could be completed.

Central European Cup - Prague Tour

Cricket Switzerland were again invited to take part in the CE cup 30.04 - 03.05.2020 which was due this year to be a warm-up tournament for the ICC T20s in the summer. We were invited as the only non-ICC nation due our consistently reliable strength of team, sporting performance and always being very competitive in all formats. Due to Covid-19 restrictions this tournament was postponed by the organisers and although many conversations took place during the season, there were only a very limited number of international matches planned around Central Europe and even fewer actually played

Plans for 2021

A date will be set by the time of the Cricket Switzerland AGM for the 2021 DBMT. Regarding international matches I am still talking with Cricket Malta about possible home & away fixtures once travel becomes possible again and I am also discussing other options for tours in June and in September. The ICC Europe Group A, B & C qualifying tournaments will limit the number of dates available around Central Europe, but I expect to have two provisional dates with more tournament information available by the time of the AGM. All plans, of course, will be governed by ongoing COVID-19 travel restrictions.
