As reported in the Aargauer Zeitung, last Friday evening unknown perpetrators set fire to the
cricket mat stored at the club house of the Kreuzzelg sports complex in Wettingen.
According to the canton police press release, the groundskeeper noticed the fire. "We were able to quickly extinguish the fire with water, preventing a major fire," says the groundsman. Due to
the groundman's quick action, the fire caused no further damage.
The cricket carpet belongs to the newly founded Aargau Cricket Club and is rolled up after every training and
game.
Who set the cricket carpet on fire remains unclear. The canton police has started a criminal investigation and are looking for witnesses who may have seen the arsonists on Friday 17th May 2019,
between 5 and 5.30pm.
If anyone can help the police with their enquiries they are requested to contact the inverstigators in Baden (tel.: 056 200 11 11).
