Arnold Bücheli reports on the Gingins Cricket Club U15 Indoor touranment at the College Madame De Staël in Carouge (GE).
Over the course of the weekend of 24-25 November, Gingins Cricket Club once again hosted its annual indoor tournament at the College Madame De Staël in Carouge (GE) for the U15s. There were teams representing Basel, La Chat, GRYCC, Zurich, and Cossonay/Gingins - totalling 35 players.
With a scoring system that encouraged accurate bowling, tight fielding and sharp running between the wickets, the overall standard was exceptionally high across the ten matches played in a tight schedule and played in an excellent, competitive spirit.
There were 1896 runs scored off the bat and a total of 123 wickets taken over the weekend.
The format of the tournament was a five-team 20Twenty round-robin, giving each team an opportunity to play one another, with the victorious team being the one taking the most points.
There were five matches on the Saturday and again five matches on the Sunday. Many of the matches were closely contested, and the result could have gone either way.
The final standing was:
Pos | Team | Played | Won | Lost | Points |
1. | Geneva Regional Youth Cricket Club* | 4 | 3 | 1 | 19 |
2. | Basel Dragins Junior Cricket Club | 4 | 3 | 1 | 19 |
3. | Zurich Crickets Cricket Club | 4 | 2 | 2 | 14 |
4. | La Chat | 4 | 1 | 3 | 9 |
5. | Cossonay/Gingins | 4 | 1 | 3 | 9 |
*GRYCC won the tournament by virtue of beating Basel in their head-to-head match.
The individuals singled out for making the most impact for their teams over the course of the weekend were:
Category | Winner | Citation |
Best Batsman | Max H. (BDJCC) |
Max was the tournament's top scorer with 130 runs during his 4 innings (at an average of 43.3). Other honourable mentions are: Louqmaan M (GRYCC, 124 runs, 41.3 average); Aditya S (C/G 102 runs, 34.3 average; Ricky B (C/G 92 runs, 46 average - highest average over the tournament, based on players who batted more than 1 innings); and Luca S (La Chat 90 runs, 45 average) |
Best Bowler | Louqmaan M (GRYCC) |
Louqmaan had weekend figures of 13.1 overs bowled - 76 runs conceded – and 6 wickets taken, with his best match figures being 2.5-17-3.
|
Best fielder | Nevzad C (GRYCC) |
Nevzad affected 6 outs in the field (2 run-outs and 4 catches). Of the 4 catches, 3 came off his own bowling. This always kept the batting side under pressure to put enough runs on the board.
Honourable mention is: Ray R (BDJCC) - Ray has a tremendous throwing arm and is a very good catcher of the ball. He has kept the run rates down which also put pressure on the batting side.
Aside from these two there were some fantastic catches off the ceiling, some excellent run-outs and good catches in the deep. |
Well done to the GRYCC U15s for winning this year’s event, and to all the individual winners as well.
Follow are the match results, with the team batting first listed first. The table includes notable achievements in each match. These are:
In the few occasions where this did not happen, there is no notable achievement recorded.
