Power 199ao in 37.4 overs (Z Mahmmod 32, S Muhammad 30) defeated
Zurich Lions 121ao in 29.4 overs (A Butt 6.4-1-16-3, A Rana 5.0-0-15-4) by 78 runs
Power defeated Zurich Lions in their second CSPL match of their 2018 CSPL campaign to make it two wins from two and head up the CSPL Eastern Division.
Power captain Sajid chose to bat first after Lions' captain Sara called the toss wrong on the boundary as opposed to the middle because juniors were completing their Saturday morning cricket practice.
Zurich Lions started well when Sonu bowled Sajid (0) on the last ball of the opening over. And it got better when four overs later Hasan (8) was judged LBW from Omid's 3rd over. Power 21-2 off 6.
Power, known for their big-hitting top & middle order didn't disappoint as Shahni (30), who incidentaly was dismissed by a great running catch by Omit off Ankush on the boundary, and Ash (26), stumped by Srivatsan after over-stretching to Shinwari, both helped Zahid (32), who played a surprisingly patient innings (67 balls) helped Power on the road of recovery at 61-3 and to 122-4 just after drinks. However immediately after drinks Sonu struck again dismissing Zahid LBW after a ball hit his pad on the full.
After no less than three dropped catches in three consecutive balls off Shinwari's 5th over, the Power innings faltered slightly when some catching opportunities started to stick, Afzaal (10) & Rana (12), but Sardar (28) ensured Power put on a defendable total guiding the tail-enders to 199ao off 37.4 overs before Sara 'mankaded' him to avoid any penalities for a slow over-rate by less than a minute to spare.
After a tasty curry lunch provided by Power Cricket Club, Lions started the task ahead of scoring 200 off 40 overs at a required run rate of exactly 5 an over.
The Lion's openers, Sheshu (22) and Lakshmi (4), steered their team through the power-play without losing a wicket in a cautious & defensive start (32-0 off 8 overs). But then they lost three wickets in quick succession, Rana (5.0-0-15-4) failing to take a hattrick, the first of two opportunities in consecutive overs in his 4 wicket haul.
It wasn't just the weather that was closing in. The task ahead seemed a very tall order with Lions at 43-5. A worthy 40 run partnership between Sara (26) & Sonu (15) kept Lions in contention but with so few wickets in hand the inevitable became reality when they were both dismissed by Aamar (6.4-1-16-4), to complete a 4 wicket haul.
It was left to Sajid to clean bowl Shinwari (3) in the 29th over to prompt the call of 'Time' from umpire Alexander Mackay and complete Power's first win of their 2018 CSPL campaign.
