Honorary Secretary's Report 2016

by Ken McKeown

Cricket Switzerland

Following is a summary report on the administration of Cricket Switzerland in Season 2016. For the purposes of this report, activities and meetings that took place between the AGM of 2016 and the AGM of 2017 are included. Full details of all key decisions taken are to be found in the official meeting records.

Cricket Switzerland members were kept informed on a regular basis of developments chiefly via the Cricket Switzerland website, in Newsletters and during the various meetings.

Annual General Meeting (AGM)

The second Cricket Switzerland AGM since the creation of the organisation in 2014 (at an Inaugural General Meeting) was held in Berne on 27 February 2016.

La Chataignerie School and Geneva Sri Lankans were accorded Associate status, having been Affiliate members for the previous twelve months.
Freiburg Nomads, Geneva and Zurich Sapphires were all welcomed as new Affiliate members.
The minutes of the AGM contain details of the discussions and decisions.

Council

The Council is required to meet at least at least once each year about one month prior to the start of each season.
The Council met for the first time in Season 2016 on 27 February. It also met on 15 October 2016.
For the first time an annual Operational/Development Plan was prepared, for Season 2016. Council adopted the Plan, which will be revised and submitted at the first Council meeting of each year.
The minutes of the Council meetings contain details of the discussions and decisions.
Council meeting minutes are considered by the subsequent Council.

Executive Committee

The EC managed the affairs of Cricket Switzerland in accordance with its Constitution and in line with the decisions and instructions of the IGM and the Council.

In 2016 the members were:

The Committee met on three occasions between the 2016 and 2017 AGMs, in May, September and October 2016 and is scheduled to meet once more on 18 February 2017. Issues that required higher consideration or decision were referred to the Council or the AGM.

Communications

The Cricket Switzerland website was kept up to date throughout the season. A regular Newsletter continued to complement the website; the objective remained as publicising Cricket Switzerland activities and news more or less monthly, depending on available information and newsworthy topics. Other issues were addressed to members by email from the Secretary.

Swiss Olympic

There was little dialogue with Swiss Olympic (SO) in 2016. Dialogue will be resumed when the required number of active playing clubs to meet the SO eligibility criteria has been achieved.

International Cricket Council (ICC)

Switzerland’s membership of the ICC remained cancelled. Following intervention by the Chairman of the ICC, a meeting between the two Swiss cricket organisations and the ICC took place in Lausanne in April 2016, following which a written agreement was reached to attempt merging the two cricket organisations.
One meeting was held between the two parties, in August 2016, and many written exchanges followed. Due to significant differences in implementation of the Agreement and refusal of the other party to enter into due diligence of its accounts and membership, the ICC was informed in January 2017 that little progress had been made. The outcome of further dialogue with the ICC will be reported orally to the AGM.
