Winterthur CC 118-8 (20.0 overs) lost to Berne CC 120-3 (13.0 overs) by 7 wkts
Aseem Dhawan stars for Bern as they chase a modest target set by Winterthur CC and in the process boost their net run rate.
Winning the toss, Tissa de Zoysa from Bern had no hesitation in inserting Winterthur into bat first on a good Bern wicket. For WCC, it was the young opening pair of Ruan and Kasun who opened the
batting. Both openers had to face a tough opening spell of Hamad and Habib, both of whom moved the ball both ways with great skill. With the ball jagging around, the run rate took a hit and WCC
failed to get any momentum into the innings. Kasun (18) fell trying to up the ante and was bowled by Mohib. Aneesh with his left arm spin then tied down the batsmen even more and did not let any
WCC batsmen to take charge. Ruan (28) played the anchor role with others around him unsuccessfully trying to clear the big boundaries. The slog over charge never happened as Habib returned in the
final overs to pick up four wickets and stopped any semblance of WCC fight. WCC finished their quota of 20 overs with 118 on the board. Habib was the star with the ball picking up four valuable
wickets followed by Mohib who picked up two wickets.
After a quick change over Bern CC launched into the chase scoring 9 runs of the first over. Sahan quickly got into groove and picked up the wicket of skipper Tissa. WCC then surprised everyone
present at the ground by dropping 7 catches in a matter of 4 overs, with Aseem and Pradeep the beneficiaries. Aseem then took charge of the situation and went after the bowling and in process
cleared the long boundaries with extreme ease. Pradeep (16) batted sensibly and cleared the ropes whenever the ball was there to hit. Aseem (70*) kept the momentum going and in-spite of losing
Pradeep and Habib, finished the game with the help of Aneesh who hit the winning boundary. The match was won in the 13 over giving a boost to the net run rate of Bern. Aseem remained unbeaten on
70.
