Over the course of the weekend of 18-19 November, Gingins Cricket Club once again hosted its annual U13 indoor tournament at the College Madame De Staël in Carouge (GE).
There were teams representing Zurich, Basel, Luxembourg, Cossonay, La Chat and Gingnis/GRYCC - totalling 55 players.
With a scoring system that encouraged accurate bowling, tight fielding and sharp running between the wickets, the overall standard was exceptionally high across the 12 matches played in a tight schedule and played in an excellent spirit.
On Saturday were pool matches with the teams determining the seeding for Sunday’s semi-finals and the final. Each of the pool matches were closely contested, and the result could have gone either way.
The final standing after the pool was:
|1.||La Chat U13s||2||2||0|
|2.||Basel Dragons U13s||2||1||1|
|2.||Zurich Crickets U13s||2||1||1|
Both La Chat and Gingins/GRYCC won their semi-final matches and Gingins/GRYCC won the finals by 2 wickets, chasing down the target of 121 with 8 balls to spare.
The individuals singled out for making the most impact for their teams over the course of the weekend:
Kai S (La Chat) &
Max P (Gingins)
Kai: finished the tournament with the highest average (86), have been out only once.
Max: finished the tournament with an average of 69, but only had the opportunity to bat three times in 4 matches. This gives him the highest per innings average.
Other notables: Ross of Basel (with an incredible 55 against Luxembourg, having retired twice in the same innings and 87 for the tournament) Kabir of Cossonay for scoring 82 runs at an average of 41 (he also made an unbeaten 20 in the finals batting for the Gingins/GRYCC team).
|Best Fielder||La Chat team||This tournament made this award the most difficult of all selections. Every team produced excellent fielding, from amazing acrobatic catches to run outs with only one stump showing (if we do not tell them this is difficult, maybe they will keep producing these moments). Brilliant wicket-keeping to ensure wayward bowling and the occasional wild throw at the stumps did not account for additional runs to the opposition. The tone was set in the first match by La Chat, and carried its way through all 12 matches on the weekend.|
|Best Bowler||Ryan S (Cossonay) & Owen L (Zurich)||On a weekend where the fielders effected so many run-outs there were not a lot of wickets to be claimed by the bowlers. There were a number of bowlers who took 3 & 4 wickets, which is a very good return on a weekend like this. However, Ryan and Owen were the tournament's joint-leading wicket takers, each claiming 5 scalps. Well played!|
|Spirit of Cricket||Luca S (La Chat)||Luca was the inspirational captain of the La Chat team. He led his team in the field, with excellent fielding setting the tone early in the tournament that fielding will be of the highest quality. He was one of the leading run-scorers (72 runs only out once) of the tournament as well as a top wicket-taker (4 to his name). His was an exceptional allround performance. A talent to look out for in Swiss Cricket. Well played!|
Well done to the Gingins/GRYCC for winning this year’s event, and to all the individual winners as well.
The result of each game was as follows:
