Geneva XI Stars CC 409-7 (40.0 overs) beat CERNe CC 143-ao (30.5 overs) by 266 runs
Geneva XI Stars were at it again on Sunday 14th May as they breached the 400 barrier once more, this time against CERN.
Sensational batting from XI Stars continued in the CSPL as they score more than 400 runs for a second week in row and record a massive victory against CERN CC.
On a warm sunny Sunday, Geneva XI Stars captain, Raja Hafeez won the toss and elected to bat first. The stars opened with Raja and Waleed, with the captain hitting the Cern bowlers to all parts of the ground. The opening pair put on 68 runs in 7 overs, before Raja hold out to long-on on 47. Then walked in the experienced M. Ali and he looked comfortable right from ball one.
Waleed and Ali put on a partnership of 141 runs, before Waleed got stumped out off Imtiaz with the score at 209 in 24 overs. Cern took the third wicket quickly as well, as Lalit got out to a good catch taken by Aditya. Qaiser of XI Star's then played a cameo of 30 runs, as the hosts lost their 4th wicket at 253 runs in 28 overs. M. Ali then soon reached his century, in a innings that consisted of delightful cut shots, cover drives and on-drives.
Soon after reaching his century M. Ali got out as well for 110 with the score at 275 after 30 overs. What followed was some brutal display of clean hitting by Vipin and Vithu, who scored 60 and 47 respectively, as the hosts put up a mammoth total of 409 runs in the allotted 40 overs.
After a lovely lunch, the Cern batters walked out, but never looked to be in the game, as the experienced Asad Shah clean bowled Paul in the very first over. Cern never recovered as they were reduced to 54/5 in just 11 overs. The tail though showed some resistance, before being bowled out for 143, as XI Stars won by a massive 266 runs. The pick of the bowlers being Asad Shah who ended up with figure of 4/22.
