Hosted by Zurich Crickets CC, Hampshire coaches John Cook, Chris Wheeler and Ross Hunter, will be running a youth cricket camp in Zurich over the long Whitsun weekend in May 2016 for U15 - U17 cricketers.
Beginning on Friday 13th the training camp will continue for almost 4 days until late on Monday 16th. Depending on the weather the sessions will take place at the indoor facilities of the Kantonsschule Hottingen in Zurich where Zurich Crickets CC players regularly train using their bowling machines and nets during the winter, or at the Deutweg ground in Winterthur – directions to both venues can be found on the ZCCC website.
Invitations to the camp will be extended to the national Under 15 squad, U17 players and all Under 19 Colts players. This will hopefully involve a number of players from across the country. The elite Hampshire coaches, working in unison with local Swiss coaches, will be looking at individual skills, but teamwork, match practice, and tactics will play a big role, too.
Later in the year the Swiss U19s will travel to Berlin, Germany to play at the European Under 19s tournament so these sessions would act as a boost, valuable input, and a chance for this group to
get together and train/play for four days.
It is also hoped that the Swiss Under 15 team will be touring in 2016 and that this camp will serve as perfect preparation.
During the camp the Hampshire coaches will run a bowling workshop over the course of the three days. John Cook, Chris Wheeler and Ross Hunter are ECB tutors and this will be a perfect opportunity for all those involved with youth players at this level to develop their coaching skills.
Working with, and learning from, these three coaches will assist the Swiss coaches in their roles as lead coaches in the clubs and with the teams they help run.
