Gingins U13 indoor tournament report

19th & 20th November 2016

by Arnold Bucheli (Tournament Director)

Gingins Cricket Club

Over the course of the weekend of 19-20 November, GinginsCricket Club once again hosted its annual indoor tournament at the College Madame De Staël in Carouge (GE).

Along with the home team were teams representing Zurich, Basel, and GRYCC - totalling 35 players.
With a scoring system that encouraged accurate bowling, tight fielding and sharp running between the wickets, the overall standard (as commented by the head of youth development, Cricket Switzerland) was exceptionally high across the 10 matches played.
On Saturday and early Sunday morning were pool matches with the teams determining the seeding for Sunday’s semi-finals and thefinal.
Each of the pool matches were closely contested, and the result could have gone either way.

Final Standings

The final standings were:

Pos. Team Played Won Lost
1. Basel Dragons CC 3 2 1
2. Gingins CC 3 2 1
3. GRYCC 3 1 2
4. Zurich Crickets CC 3 1 2

Both Basel and Gingins won their semi-final matches and Basel won the finals due to some very accurate bowling and fielding, which placed the Gingins side under a great deal of pressure to make the runs.

Individual Awards

The individuals singled out for making the most impact for their teams over the course of the weekend:

Award Player (Team)
Best Batsman

Louqmaan (GRYCC):

106 runs on the weekend, including 40 in their win against Basel

Best Bowler

Wilf (Gingins):

Took 9 wickets over the weekend, many more than the next highest wicket taker, and very economical as well, including 5 in the semi-final and final.

Best Fielder

Marc (Basel): including the first catch of the tournament (off his own bowling) and the last catch of the tournament to secure victory for Basel.
Spirit of Cricket

Sasha (Zurich): He approaches the game with relentless energy, scores runs, bowls nicely and kept his team and their spirits up throughout the tournament.

Ben (Gingins): He's new to cricket having started in April of this year.  He played many matches for both Gingins and GRYCC over the weekend. Had few opportunities with the bat and the ball. Took two catches as well as a wicket off his bowling.  His fielding and all-around performance improved greatly over the weekend and always played with a smile on his face.

This is why the youngster come out to play.  Keep up the good work.

Well done to the Basel Dragons for winning this year’s event, and to all the individual winners as well.
