Power Cricket Club secured a CSPL qualification spot in the Eastern Division with a 82 runs victory over Freiburg Nomads CC.
Power captain, Asad, won toss and elected to bat on a wonderfully sunny day, unbearably hot had it not been for a cool south-easterly breeze.
Power started well, but they didn't have it all their way and rode their luck in the early stages. In the 3rd over Osama (33) got a thick inside edge, just missing his stumps, and in the 4th over Rana was dropped off a ball that went very high indeed.
Shajir got the breakthrough in the 12th, Osama caught in the slips. This was immediately followed by another drop, but one without consequence as Shajir bowled Rana the very next ball.
In the 17th Sajid's day with the bat ended when he was caught by Hitesh (Power 113-3) and in 19th the game took early drinks due to a lost ball from Asad's big six.
Hasan was bowled by Adnan in the 22nd (154-4) but Powers luck continued when in the 25th Shahnawaz was dropped behind.
Adnan (7-0-63-4) was mixing it up, one turning, one straight, and got his just reward when he bowled Asad (168-6) playing across the line. After another drop behind Adnan took matters into his own hands, with two clean bowled in consecutive overs, the second of which was in the 30th when Shahnawaz (24) was played wrong line to take his off stump.
Krishnan (5.5-0-35-2) cleaned up the tail, Power ending their innings on 234.
Power appeared confident that the target of 234 would be sufficient. And so it proved.
Osama's first strike, followed two wides, dismissing FNCC's opener Niroj (0) LBW, the ball staying straight and low - theoretically at least, the first legal delivery of innings.
But Power had to wait until the 16th when the Freiburg captain Vijay (32) was caught in the deep off Shahnawaz to break 2nd wicket partnership (53-2). Freiburg lost two wickets just before drinks (65-4) and another two just after (76-6). With the total appearing well out of their reach, the tail wagged and doubled the score, not least thanks to a 42 run 10th wicket partnership between Shashank (20) and Krishnan (10), but the result was never really in doubt at any stage.
Khaliq (1-0-4-1) finally cleaned up, bowling Shashank to secure an 82 run victory and a place in the CSPL quarter finals in a months time.
