Geneva XI Stars win big against CERN CC

Geneva XI Stars beat CERN Cricket Club by 66 runs in Cricket Switzerland Pickwick Cup T20 Championship. After winning the toss, Geneva XI Stars decided to bat first and soon lost their openers in quick succession and at one stage were 73/4 in 11 overs. Experienced batting duo of skipper Ali Malik (65) and Raja Hafeez (58) then batted briilliantly and put on a 100 run partnership in 7 overs to finish the innings at 192 in the allocated 20 overs. After the tea interval CernCC lost quick wickets chasing a big target. Danish Nawaz top scored for them with 31 runs, however they fell well short of the target by 66 runs. For XI Stars  Ali Asad Shah and Qaiser were the star performers with the ball taking 4 and 3 wickets respectively. Amandeep Singh took two wickets and Arjun Vinod contributed with one wicket on his debut for the team.

Olten wins against Berne in a thriller

Olten pulled off a sensational 2 run victory against Berne CC at Schonau. Batting first on a low and slow wicket Olten CC got off to a bad start losing two wickets in the third over reducing them to 9/2 after 3 overs. A 39 run partnership for the third wicket restored a semblance of calm to the proceedings, however Olten could not sustain the momentum provided by the third wicket partnership and kept on losing wickets and ultimately finished on 103 all out losing the final wicket on the last ball of the 20th over. A quick tea was followed by an aggressive start to the innings by Berne CC openers. However their stand did not last long and Berne were reduced to 41/3 at the end of 6 overs. Good partnerships kept Berne course for the chase and at the end of 17 overs were 85/6. Only 18 were required from the last three overs with 4 wickets in hand. However, they lost 2 wickets in 18 over and with 5 runs required of the last over, Berne lost the nerve and were bowled out two runs short of the target giving Olten a thrilling victory.

After the disappointing loss in the first game against Olten CC, Berne had to pull up its socks, which they did creditably winning comfortably against St Gallen. Batting first this time around, Berne CC got off to a solid start ensuring a strong opening partnership of 52 runs in only 7 overs. A 40 runs second wicket partnership provided the middle and lowed order of Berne CC with a perfect launching platform with 6 overs to go. Berne finished on 140// in allocated 20 overs, a very good score considering the slowness of the wicket they play on. Chasing a big target on a slow wicket, St Gallne got off to a good start scoring rapidly andwere 44 of just 6 overs. Berne came back strongly into the game picking up wickets at regular intervals and the middle order of St.Gallen could not sustain the momentum provided by their openers. They were ultimately bowled out for 115 in 18.2 overs resulting in a 25 run victory for Berne CC.
