Swiss Colts in 4-way race for semi finals

(Switzerland, 19 July 2015)

On a hot summer day, Swiss Colts went into a double header of Pickwick Cup T20 games against Cossonay CC and Uprsing CC knowing well that victories in both games will put them on the brink of semi finals.

Game 1 : Swiss Colts vs Cossonay CC

Swiss Colts 97-8 (20 overs) lost toCossonay CC 99-9 (15.4 overs) by 1 wkt

In the first game of the day, Swiss Colts won the toss and decided to bat first.

However, they got off to a bad start loosing the first wicket in first over and this was soon followed by two more wickets and Colts were reeling at 10/3 in 4 overs. A fourth wicket partnership of 39 runs rescued Colts from a collapse but they lost the momentum. Their quest for quick runs in the last 8 overs also did not yield much success in the face of good bowling from Cossonay. Colts only managed to muster 97/8 in their allocated 20 overs.
After a quick break, Cossonay set about chasing the target and got off to a flier scoring 24 of the first 4 overs.  Wickets started tumbling and Cossonay soon foun themselves in trouble at 70/6 in 10 overs and this soon became 78/9 in 13 overs. Colts were just a wicket away from a spectacular victory. But as they say in criket it aint over until the last ball is bowled. The last batting pair of Cossonay hung in, scoring important boundaries and scraped across the line in 15.4 overs. A brilliant win for Cossonay and a deflating one for the Colts.

Game2 : Swiss Colts vs Uprising CC

Swiss Colts 175-2 (20 overs) defeatedUprising CC 151ao (19.3 overs) by 24 runs

One could have been excused for  loss of spirit after a deflating victory early in the day, but Colts showed no signs of it and pulled of a sensational victory in the second game of the day against table toppers Uprising CC.
Colts once again won the toss against Uprising CC and decided to bat. Yash R and Ruan K opened the batting for the Colts and lost their first two wickets on 23 and 52. Ashwin V and Jai S built a strong and aggressive partnership to put on a good final score of 175 for 2, from which 40 runs came off the last two overs. Captain Ashwin V scored a brilliant 87 not out and well supported by Jai S 37 not out.
Uprising CC came in to bat with high confidence, as they were still unbeaten in the Pickwick cup this season.  However, they were soon in trouble as their wickets started to fall at regular intervals. Good batting display from Mehmood A 54 and Saleem N 22 was not enough to chase down the target and finally Uprising CC were all out for 151. Swiss Colts register their third win in the Pickwick cup and keep their hopes of qualifying to the knock out phase still alive.
With every team in the Western Division loosing a game, the race for qualification into semi finals becomes more competitive with four teams having a chance.
