CERN began their 2015 CSPL campaign where they left off last year, with a convincing win over Uprising CC in their first game.
On a sunny but a very windy day, CERN travelled to play their first CSPL match against Uprising CC at Vernier. Uprising captain Nelson Burrell won the toss and elected to bat.
CERN’s opening bowlers Dawood Ahmed and Claston D’Mello (7.5-2-44-5) bowled very accurately and took the first three wickets for 39 runs. Then the experienced Aamir Khan (43) and Ankit (68) of
Uprising took the score to 108 at drinks after 20 overs. Richard Parker (8-2-41-2) and skipper Imtiaz Ahmed (6-0-16-1) controlled the second half of Uprising‘s innings with accurate bowling and
got Uprising were eventually all out for a total of 162 in 32.5 overs. Wicket keeper Shahzad Muzaffar took four excellent catches behind the wicket.
After tea, CERN’s began unconvincingly, losing 2 quick wickets with a total of only 36 after 12 overs. But solid and orthodox batting by ever reliable Richard Parker (71) and Claston D’Mello (23) took the score to 119 after 31 overs against the very hostile and accurate bowling of Uprising. Shahzad Muzaffar (26 not out) once again batted very well to win the match in 38.5 overs for CERN.
CERN extend their thanks to Chris Onions for scoring.
