The team of 8 consisting of U14’s Cameron Sawyer and Henry Thorpe, U13’s Ben Harper, Dan Hope, Callum Wright, Ed and Will Clayton together U11 captain James West took part in the U14 competition against Vienna who entered 2 teams, Bratislava, Hessen and hosts Munich.

The matches were high intensity lasting only 8 overs per innings, each outfield player having to bowl at least one over and batsmen retiring at 15 runs.

The Dragons finished third after a thrilling weekend of cricket with the following results:-

No. Fixture / result / score

Match 1

Dragons (99 for 0) beat Bratislava (68 for 4) by 31 runs
(Will Clayton, Callum Wright, Dan Hope retired)

Match 2

(Callum Wright, Ed Clayton retired)

Match 3

(Will Clayton retired)

Match 4

Vienna Orange (83 for 4) beat Dragons (64 for 4) by 29 runs

(Callum Wright retired)

Dragons 99 for 0 (Will Clayton, Callum Wright, Dan Hope retired), Bratislava 68 for 4

Dragons 84 for 2 (Callum Wright, Ed Clayton retired), Hessen 83 for 4

Dragons 85 for 3 (Callum Wright, Henry Thorpe retired), Munich 43 all out

Vienna Blue 82 for 1, Dragons 63 for 4 (Will Clayton retired)

Vienna Orange 83 for 4, Dragons 64 for 4 (Callum Wright retired)

Ultimately, the two Vienna sides proved too strong for the younger Dragons team but they pushed them close in both games. The bowling and fielding was exceptional but the batting not quite strong enough to cope with the disciplined bowling of the Vienna attack.
New friendships were established and we look forward to playing Vienna and Hessen again in the Dragons U13 tournament in April.
