The summer is here and the conditions are ideal for cricket. Now is the perfect time to take a mid-season look at the SCA 40-over league, focusing on the two ends of the country and their respective divisions.
The eastern division, the smaller of the two divisions, is wide open. Things have been exasperated after Royal's withdrawal from the league following the forfeiting of two
successive games (tough on Winterthur as that game has been their solitary win this season).
At the moment Olten (probably favourites) are leading the group, with Nomads in second spot. Power haven't played a game yet, so they have everything to play for in the second half of the season. A string of positive results will surely see them claim a qualifying spot.
With the exception of the wooden spoon spot, whatever the results may be, this group is going to be tight, very tight!
The western division on the other hand is a three horse race, contested between Berne, Geneva XI Stars & Geneva International, all of whom remain unbeaten this season. The qualifiers from
this group are likely to be decided in the next three weeks, as all three meet each other between Sunday 14th July and the beginning of August.
Geneva International are outside favourites as they have home advantage against both Berne & Geneva XI Stars, but big hitting & defending champions Geneva XI Stars have home advantage against Berne. So will it be Berne that miss out this season?
At the other end of the table Cossonay are currently in the wooden spoon position, but a win against either Uprising or Swiss Colts could see a sudden change in fortunes for them.
