The Swiss Cricket Association (SCA) has reported that there has been a verbal agreement with Gastrag to renew the sponsorship agreement for a further twelve months.
Six years ago the Pickwick Pub chain (owned by Basel based Gastrag), agreed to sponsorship a 35 over knock-out competition called the Swiss Mr. Pickwick Cricket Cup. Unlike the SCA league, this slightly reduced over format is also open to affiliate members, by doing so promoting cricket development in Switzerland by introducing new clubs to a competitve game structure.
Each year the draw has taken place in a Pickwick Pub, the very first being in Basel, but more recently in at the Oliver Twist in Zurich.
The SCA confirmed that the format of the this year's knockout compeition was still under discussion. Mr. A.Mackay, President of the SCA said, "Both the sponsor and the SCA want to keep the thrill of this knockout competition, adopting a Twenty20 format may help. The goal is to have a vibrant and exciting cup compeition that the cricketing fraternity associates with the Pickwick Pubs found around the country."
The 2012 format is expected to be announced after the SCA AGM on Saturday 4th February.
