The third edition of the Swiss T20 Cup start well before a ball was even bowled, with the addition of a new major sponsor in Lloyds TSB Private Banking.
The only game on Sunday was the official opening ceremony and began with opening speech from Peter Nixon (Swiss T20 Executive Vice President), Ken McKeown (Berne CC Club President), Alex MacKay (Swiss Cricket Association President) and Markus Schätti from (Lloyds TSB Private Banking Branch Manager). Around 100 people gathered for the opening ceremony in Berne.
The weather was again in the 30’s, with blue skies above the players from Zurich United CC and the Swiss Colts (GYRCC).
United CC batted first and got off to a strong start, going at 10 an over for the first 6 overs for the loss of 2 wickets. However, the introduction of spin from Arjun Vinod pegged United back and the further loss of wickets meant that they were kept to a respectable 154 all out in the last over. Niroshan was the mainstay of the innings with 45, which gave him the Man of the Match award as well.
The Swiss Colts never really managed to get going against the United attack, and were unable to repeat their upset against the same team from the previous year, when they defeated United. They played out their allotted 20 overs for 92 with the loss of 7 wickets.
