Patrick Henderson has announced his intention to step down as the SCA's Youth Development Officer after holding the position for the past eight years.
Patrick, in close cooperation with Geneva Region Youth's Michael George, instigated the
Swiss Cricket Association's effort in promoting junior & youth cricket in Switzerland. From the conception and inception, he and a whole team of parents, coaches & supporters have gained international recognition.
Through some difficult and challenging times for the Swiss Cricket Association, Patrick Henderson has coordinated and represented this effort and as a testimony to the success there are now estimated to be more youth playing cricket in Switzerland than seniors. And the standard achieved by our youth teams is unprecedented. Switzerland, according to the European Cricket Council, in terms of cricket youth development is considered to be one of the most pro-active countries in Europe.
The winter season will provide Patrick an opportunity to hand over the reins and for these two gentlemen to feel comfortable in their role before the next AGM in early 2013.
John Millar is current U15 coach of Zurich Crickets, a Level I coach and Treasurer of CCAS (Cricket Coaches Asssociation of Switzerland). He has worked with Patrick for a number of years and knows the junior scene well.
Chris Lodge is currently working on becoming a Level III coach and has been involved in cricket development activities in England at both club and district levels. His wife has moved to Zug for work, and Chris is following after the summer.
"Despite various attempts at trying to get Patrick's to reconsider, we must respect his decision", said SCA President, Mr. Alexander Mackay. "With the support of Michael George, and the many parents and coaches, Patrick has built something special. We will be forever endebted to Patrick". Alexander Mackay continued, "But we are extremely lucky to have two very capable volunteers to take over from Patrick. This will ensure that development of cricket amongst the younger generations to come will continue and we all look forward tremendously to working with John & Chris through the winter as Patrick hands over the responsibilities ahead of the AGM in early 2013."
