Press Release: Basel Dragons

On Friday 6th May, Basel Dragons Junior Cricket Club was officially established, its constitution agreed and officers elected to serve on the committee. This development followed unanimous agreement amongst the parent body that remaining part of Basel Cricket Club was not in the best interests of the junior players. BDJCC intends to apply for affiliate membership of the SCA forthwith. The committee and coaches are dedicated to expanding the club so that more juniors from the Basel area can be introduced to the game of cricket in an enjoyable and competitive atmosphere.

The club will be based at the International School Basel where we have secured indoor training facilities at the Aesch campus. The committee is also working hard to secure access to the outdoor wicket in Basel for summer training and matches but this is yet to be confirmed by the Basel sports authorities.

The club will aim to put out sides at the U11, U13 and U15 level on a consistent basis. At present, we have full teams at U11 and U13 level but only half a team at U15 level. Increasing numbers at all age groups will be a focus  of our activities in year 1 and we also hope to have an U9 team soon.

The ability to play competitive games against the other Swiss junior clubs was a major driver behind the formation of the new club. The Zuoz tournament was a major highlight for the boys and the club has also enjoyed fixtures with Zurich Crickets, Gingins, CDL and Cossonay. Everyone associated with BDJCC has very much appreciated the warm welcome it has received from the SCA and the other clubs.
