Zurich Crickets Cricket Club is the largest cricket club in Switzerland. Formed in 2004, at the beginning of 2022 the club had over 110 playing members, which included almost 70 junior players aged between 7-17. In addition, there are 10-15 coaches and a number of parents helping out behind the scenes.

Teams train and play matches almost every week of the year on Saturdays and Sundays, outdoors in summer at the Deutweg ground in Winterthur and the Embrach ground, and in winter at the Kantonsschule Hottingen in Zurich and the Zurich International School in Adliswil.  In addition, there are outdoor net sessions on Friday evenings. The club is an associate member of Cricket Switzerland, the premier governing body for cricket in Switzerland, and plays competing teams from across Switzerland at all levels. A number of players play for the Swiss national teams.

Our Club is run by parents of players, none of whom are paid for the many hours of work they contribute to the Club. Your help as a parent in running our Club is vital. We urge you to participate by volunteering to become a manager, coach, scorer, recorder or umpire,or by assisting our committee in organising events or by facilitating equipment to training and game venues.
The Club’s philosophy mirrors that of the MCC guidelines for youth development, namely to provide a well organised competition that enables as many junior members as possible to enjoy the game of cricket, and for them to get the most out of their participation. Differential skills within the same team should not lessen the enjoyment and sense of achievement of player, regardless of standard.

The emphasis is on:

  • Enjoyment
  • Playing in and being an integral part of a team
  • Giving all players a fair go
  • Improving cricket skills
  • Learning the laws of cricket, and how to play within them
  • Learning good sportsmanship and the principle of fair play

Whilst we obviously play with the aim of winning, we do not play to win at all costs. We remember that this is Junior Cricket, not the Ashes!
